Horst Vey notes that the original is missing (S.J. Barnes, N. de Poorter, O. Millar and H. Vey, Van Dyck - A Complete Catalogue of the Paintings, p. 413, under no. III.A26). Antonius Triest was the patron who commissioned Rubens' Conversion of St Bavo for the high altar of St Bavo in Ghent and was a friend and patron of Van Dyck.
