The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The panel remains structurally stable and appears to be well preserved with the artist’s vigorous brushwork and subtle chiaroscuro highly appreciable despite the natural ageing of the paint layer. The artist’s addition of a strip of 2.3 cm in height across the top is now slightly pronounced and has some associated retouching along its edges. Close examination reveals a small stable diagonal crack to this strip. The surface of the panel with some minor scuffing and dents with associated paint loss. Ultra-violet fluorescence examination confirms the presence of some scattered retouchings; the layer of varnish obscures further observations, but there may have been some strengthening to the darker tones.
