This relined canvas retains a good tension on its stretcher. Inspection under raking light reveals a wealth of impasto brushwork across the canvas. Examination under ultra-violet fluorescence reveals some isolated flecks of retouching and strengthening to the figures and buildings and more extensive retouchings to areas of the sky, which are not immediately apparent in natural light. There is one minor repaired tear to the lower right corner. The wealth of narrative detail and rich palette remain highly appreciable. The frame is in very good condition with some minor losses to the gilding.
