The canvas has been relined and retains a good tension on a stretcher. There is evidence of instability in the paint surface with some associated losses in the upper left section of the canvas. These areas should be stabilised so as to avoid potential future losses. The paint surface is a little dirty and there is some scuffing near the edges, no doubt associated to historic frame abrasion. Some discoloured retouching is visible in the red tones. Examination under ultraviolet light is largely obscured by the thick old varnish layer but does confirm the aforementioned restoration.
