The present lot is based upon one of three allegorical figures placed around the base of the Monument to the Heart of the Constable, Anne de Montmorency, commissioned in 1571, and today in the Louvre (see J.-R. Gaborit et al, Musée du Louvre, Sculpture Française, Paris, 1998, II, p. 547.

The 'C' couronné poinçon was a tax mark employed in France on any alloy containing copper between March 1745 and February 1749.
