The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The single-piece panel has two vertical splits running half the length of the panel (as visible in the illustration). There are a few small losses associated to the splits and some further losses to the head of the Saint, exposing the gold ground. There are two small circular worm exit holes in the halo. There is evidence of historic lifting that has been stabilised (with some associated discoloured strengthening) to the right edge of the Saint’s habit, immediately beneath his elbow.
Examination under ultra violet light Is largely obscured by the thick varnish but reveals one or two spots of strengthening, eg, associated to the aforementioned splits.
