The panel is made up of two oak planks, which are in good, stable condition. There is a somewhat uneven varnish, and a fine pattern of craquelure to the picture surface. There is a more prominent, distinct pattern of craquelure in the lower left section (as visible in the illustration) possibly created by the shrinking of a varnish used in that area. The examination under UV light shows scattered retouching from different restoration campaigns, and a slight loss of clarity in the drawing. Overall the picture presents well, with the detail of the figures generally preserved.
