The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas is reinforced on the reverse with a glue lining. The paint is stable on the support and the varnish somewhat cloudy. A fine craquelure is visible in natural light. In raking light, three small convex bumps measuring approximately ½ inch in diameter are visible. Under ultraviolet light, the varnish fluoresces green, impeding full inspection of the work. It can be assumed that there was an earlier campaign of restoration. In general, the painting appears to be in a very good state of preservation and a conservation treatment will likely help to restore the balance between the still life elements and the background. The painting can, however, be enjoyed in its current state.
