The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This painting is executed on a panel with a horizontal grain, which is supported on the reverse by a cradle and along the edges by batons, which bring the overall measurements to 10 x 8 1/8 inches. There are a number of horizontal cracks in the panel, which have been stabilized and addressed with careful retouching, as seen in the catalogue image. The paint layer is stable, although abraided throughout. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a campaign of retouches addressing the wood grain, as well as strengthening to the features of the sitter's face and hair and to the drapery folds. The painting presents well and is offered in a Dutch style frame.
