The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Saint Peter:
This painting is executed on a panel comprised of a single board with a vertical grain. There are dormant wormholes visible on the surface and on the reverse, some of which are unrestored. The paint layer is stable under a clear varnish. In raking light repairs to small areas of loss in the Saint's blue robes and in the background are visible. Further repairs to the background and strengthening to the contours of the saint's robe are visible under ultraviolet light. The painting presents well overall and can be displayed in its current state.
Saint Paul:
This painting is executed on a panel comprised of a single board with a vertical grain. There are dormant wormholes visible on the painted surface and on the reverse, some of which are not restored. The paint layer is slightly dirty and exhibits an uneven craquleure. A few holes in the surface have associated losses, which are unrepaired, as seen in the catalogue image. Repairs to losses in the robe and background are visible in natural light. In ultraviolet light thin strokes of inpainting close the craquleure and strenghten the contours of the drapery. The painting presents well and can be exhibitied in is present state.
