The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting is supported on the reverse with a glue lining. The paint layer is stable under a clear varnish that has slightly yellowed with age. Under natural light, there are scattered areas of retouching evident. There is an L-shaped repaired tear to the boy's neck extending down into his forearm which is supported on the reverse with a patch. There is an even network of craquelure. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned restoration and further retouching along the edges to address frame abrasion. This painting presents well and can be hung in its present state. The work is offered in a carved gilt wood frame.
