The painting is executed on a panel composed of two horizontally oriented wooden boards of equal size with a horizontal grain. The panel has a hairline horizontal crack at its center spanning its width, and a smaller secondary horizontal crack above it, near the cow’s horns. The paint layer is stable, and under a glossy, clear and even varnish. In natural light, restorations along the aforementioned repair and some touches to the clouds are visible. Under ultraviolet light, restoration along the panel join and scattered small repairs, most notably to the sky at upper left, are visible. Ultraviolet light also reveals a few short strokes of strengthening along the contours of the sitting cow. The work presents well and can be hung in its current condition. The painting is offered in a simple painted wood frame.
