The First:
The canvas is supported with a glue lining. Under natural light, the varnish is cloudy. There are a few ¹⁄₈ inch losses visible long the left edge and a scuff with associated losses at the lower left corner. There are streaks to the varnish along the left edge and a few areas of discolored retouches over the wall above the older woman’s head as well as above the hatless child’s head. Under ultraviolet light, additional restoration fluoresces over the wall in the background, over the elder woman’s back and cheek, over the younger woman’s forehead and nose, right wrist and the top of her right hand, over her chest, and is scattered places in the background. A few additional touches are seen over the children’s faces and here and there in the drapery. The painting could be displayed as is, but would improve with conservation.

The second:
The canvas is supported with a glue lining. Under natural light, the varnish is cloudy. Discolored retouches are visible in the sky and in other places in the background along with over a curved line descending from the upper left edge and then continuing horizontally over the seated woman’s head. Under ultraviolet light, additional strengthening fluoresces here and there in the background, as well as along the jawline of the standing figure at right. A line of restoration is visible on the central seated figure’s forehead, with touches to her chin and right shoulder. Retouching is seen on the face of the figure behind the seated woman, and in a few other places. The painting would benefit from conservation and refreshing the varnish, but could be displayed as is.
