拍品专文

The present view is a precise depiction of the Imperial City of Nuremberg from the south-east, showing the river Pegnitz flowing into the city, in which the formidable Nuremberg castle rises on a sandstone ridge dominating the historic centre of Nuremberg.

The artist, Samuel Friedrich Schmieder, painted four views of the town of Regensburg in 1725, which are today in the town collection, from the different compass points, which suggests that he was a topographical painter active in Bavaria. Very few documented works by the artist are known today and this signed painting is an important addition to his oeuvre and a useful historical document as to the layout of Nuremberg in 1734.
