The panel is composed of four horizontally oriented boards measuring approximately ¼ inch thick and cradled on the reverse. The varnish is clear and the paint stable on the support. Three horizontal cracks, the largest of which measures approximately 6 inches and the others an inch or less, are visible along the right edge. Ultraviolet light reveals a campaign of restoration in the sky, principally a network of fine horizontal strokes to close the wood grain and to address natural age-related thinning of the paint. Some of these have discolored slightly over time. Further retouching is evident along the panel joins. The landscape and figures appear to be in a generally good state of preservation, with only scattered fine lines of strengthening to reinforce contours or suppress the wood grain, notably in the church spire at center. The painting can be displayed in its current state but may benefit if some of the areas of now-discolored retouching, particularly in the yellows along the horizon line, were reapplied.
