拍品专文

This painting repeats the central section of one of four large canvases executed by Noël Coypel between 1673 and 1675 for the 'Corps Central, Grands appartements salle de Gardes' at Versailles. The other three canvases also represent just rulers from classical antiquity: Solon defending the justice of his laws against the objections of the Athenians, Ptolemy Philadelphus liberating the Jews and The foresight of Alexander Severus.
