Each vase has a rounded body and is painted on one side in rich cobalt hues with auspicious and scholarly objects, including a qin, books, incense burners and other archaistic vessels with flowers. The reverse of one is painted with a fisherman in a mountainous river landscape, and the other with a magpie perched on a prunus branch. The base is marked with an underglazed blue double circle.

Gerald Reitlinger（1900-1978），英国艺术史家、考古学家、收藏家。于1930年代游历西亚、中亚和中国，两次参加牛津大学在伊拉克主持的考古发掘，并带回大量陶瓷标本。1978年，他大部分的收藏永久展出于牛津大学阿什莫林博物馆 (Ashmolean Museum)。
