Lot Essay

Edward Keating (1956-2021) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning former photojournalist for The New York Times, lauded for documenting the wreckage at ground zero within the first month after 9/11. Over a friendship that spanned two decades, Robert Frank served as both a mentor and close friend to Keating, their work even being shown together at the 2007 Pingyao International Photography Festival. The present lot is inscribed 'For the US Highways' by Frank, seemingly referring to Keating's series Main Street - The Lost Dream of Route 66 and Frank's own photographs along America's highways.
