Lot Essay

Marilyn Levine is known for her hyper-realist, high fire ceramic sculptures of leather boots, bags, suitcases and jackets. In 1974, Levine was exhibited at Ivan Karp’s famous OK Harris Gallery, which was then located across the street from the Holly Solomon Gallery on West Broadway street. Holly Solomon had a longstanding friendship with Karp and acquired these boots directly from him at OK Harris, and later displayed them proudly on her coffee table at home.
