Specialist Notes:The work presented here is part of a series of fifteen drawings that British artist Phyllida Barlow made in preparation for the sculpture
Sixty Minutes exhibited in studio 1.1 in London in 2003. Working within the disparate genres of painting and sculpture, Barlow’s works on paper are a fundamental part of her installation and monumental sculpture practice. Her drawings are an exploration of her sculptural concerns, which go beyond and complement the final execution of her three-dimensional works. Not a simple illustration of the final sculpture,
Untitled is a standalone work and an investigation in of itself. The architectural elements in her composition playfully oscillate between abstraction and representation.
Untitled allows the viewer insight into Barlow’s perspective and thought process, as a separate experience to the physical engagement of her sculptures.
