Dr Lindsay Errington has identified this as a study for The Bride’s Toilet, dated 1838 (National Gallery of Scotland). The pen and ink study shows a bride with two attendants, adjusting her bridal gown and veil. Other sketches of the subject are in the Metropolitan Museum, New York.
