Lot Essay

Largely active in Dublin, Irish artist O’Brien is known for his detailed and delicate landscapes: views of Ireland, Wales and the north of England, predominantly on paper. He studied at the Dublin Society Schools, where he received a medal for drawing, and exhibited at the Royal Academy in London from 1810-1816. He was also known under the German ‘Oben’ in London as he believed the works of foreign artist would receive more attention.
