Lot Essay

The eucrites are achondrite-type meteorites, of basaltic composition, coming from the crust of the asteroid 4-Vesta, the second largest asteroid, explored by the DAWN probe in 2011-2012, which confirmed that it is indeed a protoplanet, a fossil of the solar system formation 4.56 billion years ago.

According to the upcomig description by Dr. A.T. Irving the plagioclase is transformed to the high pressure vitreous form called maskelynite, attesting to a huge shock pressure, a rare case among eucrites.
