The hinged domed lid and rectangular rest with applied etched scrolling foliate brass mounts and fitted with oval Jasperware plaques depicting Neoclassic vignettes and opening to reveal a purple velvet lined hinged writing surface below a compartment fitted with an inkwell and lighter stamped BERRY'S PATENT LONDON, a stamp box, and divided compartments, the top monogrammed M.E.B., the lock stamped 'LONDON'
