The domed foot rising to a knopped stem cast and applied with winged putti heads and scrolls, the body with cast panels of the Finding of Moses and Jesus Blessing the little Children, further engraved to one side with a royal cypher below a coronet, and to the other with a presentation inscription, the domed cover flat chased with strapwork and a garland of wheat and grapevine, the finial fully modeled as John the Baptist, marked on flange of cover and foot rim

Lot Essay

The inscription reads, "To the Honble. Victoria Alexandrina Howard, From Her Godmother VICTORIA R. August 12, 1840."

Born 3 July, 1840 Lady Victoria Alexandrina Fitzalan-Howard was the daughter of Henry Granville Fitzalan-Howard, 14th Duke of Norfolk, and Hon. Augusta Mary Mina Catherine Lyons. She married James Robert Hope-Scott, son of General Hon. Sir Alexander Hope and Georgiana Brown, on 7 January 1861, with whom she had six children.
