First edition, from the library of Empress Marie Louise.Published by subscription and dedicated to King Louis XVIII of France, Sauvan’s work narrates a voyage down the Seine, from the Louvre in Paris to Le Havre, passing through Saint-Denis, La Roche-Guyon and Rouen. Abbey Travel90; Tooley 445.

Folio (349 x 278mm). Title vignette of the chateau de Rosny, cul-de-lampe, map and 24 hand-colored aquatint plates by Sutherland and Havell after Pugin and Gendall (occasional light spotting on text pages). Contemporary quarter red morocco over patterned paper boards (light wear, especially along fore-edge). Provenance:Empress Marie Louise, wife of Napoleon I (1791-1847; bookplate) – Antoine Vautier (bookplate).
