Lot Essay

The series against India was GB's last. In the first innings of the third Test, he scored 105 (his 22nd Test Match century), Tavare 149 and Botham 66. A deft four took him past Sobers’ record tally of 8,032 Test runs. He returned home after the fourth Test, the leading run scorer in Test matches with 8,114 runs and remained as top run scorer until surpassed by Gavaskar in 1983.
