拍品专文

Operating as one singular artist, Gilbert Proesch (b. 1943) and George Passmore (b. 1942) met in the 1960s, when they were both studying at St Martin's School of Art, London. They have lived and worked together as Gilbert & George since 1968, living in the working-class neighbourhood of Spitalfields, London, they have revolted against art's elitism, naming their work 'Art for all' and declaring themselves 'living sculptures', as depicted in this dynamic work by Snowdon.

Another work from the same series is in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery (see NPG P1876).
