The teapot is decorated in bright enamels with a continuous design of butterflies hovering by blossoming tree peonies on a grassy verge with feathery brown plants, the cover similarly decorated and the arched handle embellished with peonies and flowers on a dense leafy scroll. The tripod stand is supported on three legs with shell-form terminals and ball feet and has a detachable covered central section, all variously decorated with flowers.

拍品专文

A related painted enamel teapot and stand is discussed and illustrated by David S. Howard in A Tale of Three Cities, Canton, Shanghai and Hong Kong, Three Centuries of Sino-British Trade in the Decorative Arts, Sotheby's, 1997, p.157, no. 202. The author notes that these pieces drew inspiration from English silver originals.
