1. WU BONIAN / GUAN SHAOZHOU (19TH-20TH CENTURY)
Mulan / Calligraphy

Mulan inscribed and signed by Wu Bonian, with one seal
Dated summer, dingchou year (1937)
Calligraphy inscribed and signed by Guan Shaozhou, with two illegible seals

NOTE:
Wu Bonian is a member of the Hui ethnic group, and he was a famous painter in Tianjin who specialized in flower-and-birds, animals, figures and landscapes during the Republican period. His painting style was based on the Ren Bonian, also known as the “Southern Ren Northern Wu”, and he was one of the representative painters of the Beijing-Tianjin School of painting and was known as the “Ren Bonian of Tianjin”.

NOTE:
Yang Mengjiu, known as Ruiling, was a native of Renqiu, Hebei Province. Yang was good at calligraphy and painting, and in his early years he participated in the Beijing Chinese Painting Research Society. In his early years, he participated in the Beijing Chinese Painting Society. He lived in Tianjin for many years, and was once the secretary of Xu Shichang (1855-1939), but in his later years he made a living by selling his paintings.

Wang Renpei, known as Xinnong, is a native of Ninghai. Zhejiang Province. He is a famous Peking Opera actor who specialises in calligraphy.
