Lot Essay

Friedrich Gottlob Hoffmann (1741–1806) was a Leipzig cabinet maker and was the first cabinet maker in a German speaking country to publish an illustrated catalogue of his works, the first published in 1789 and the second in 1795. A nearly identical cabinet with polychrome painted panels was included in a retrospective exhibit of Hoffman’s work at the Grassimuseum in Leipzig in 2014.
