Each terracotta relief with overall surface wear, abrasions and tiny losses as to be expected with age. With scattered small and shallow chips to the edges of the terracotta. Some wear and rubbing to the high points. Please note that Christie's does not guarantee the condition of frames.
1. PORTRAIT OF BENJAMIN FRANKLIN BY JEAN-BAPTISTE NINI (1717-1768)

2. PORTRAIT OF GENERAL KELLERMAN BY WORKSHOP JOSEPH CHINARD (1756-1813)
19TH CENTURY
inscribed 'Chinard de l'institute a Paris et de l'atelier a Lyon' and bearing a paper label inscribed '...Kellerman 48 du Catalogue Comte de Penna Longa [sic] no. 5'

François Christophe de Kellerman was born in Wolfsbuchweiler in Alsace in 1735 and died in Paris in 1820. His Artillery defense at the Moselle in 1792 demoralized the Prussians. He was created Marshal and Duc de Valmy by Napoleon and commanded the Rhine Reserve in 1809 and 1812. At the Restoration he attached himself to the Bourbons. His son, François Etienne (1770-1835) led the charge at the battle of Marengo (1800).

Condition: The bust with typical wear and losses. With scattered small shallow losses, including to the lower left edge and to the background. With overall flaked losses and 'tenting' to the surface. A later wash to the surface, most likely disguising restorations. The reverse with a later hook secured by additional plaster, possibly covering a repair.

3. PORTRAIT OF JOSEPH HYACINTHE FRANCOIS DE PAULE DE RIGAUD, COMTE DE VAUDREUIL, AFTER JEAN-BAPTISTE NINI (1717-1786)
PROBABLY 19TH CENTURY
inscribed 'HYACINTHE DE RIGAUD COMTE DE VAUDREUIL' and 'NINI F...', the reverse bearing paper labels inscribed '24'

Condition: The bust with typical wear and losses. A possible restoration to his chin and with some retouching to the surface.

Condition: The bust with typical wear and losses. With further very small shallow losses at his shoulder. A loss at the top edge issuing a hairline crack extending down and around the bust’s head toward the left center edge. The reverse with a repaired T-shaped crack.
