See the plate with these arms illustrated by E. Gordon, Collecting Chinese Export Porcelain, London, 1978, p. 29 (top), who notes that Baron J. van Herzeele was a manager of the Dutch East India Company. A plate from the Mottahedeh Collection is illustrated by Howard and Ayers, China for the West, London and New York, 1978, vol. II, p. 395, no. 392; and another is in the Historisch Museum, Rotterdam, illustrated by D. F. Lunsingh Scheurleer, Chinese Export Porcelain - Chine de Commande, London, 1974, fig. 270. A pair of chargers from this service from the Binder Collection was sold by Christie’s, New York, 25 January 2011, lot 44; a large dish in the J. Louis Binder Collection was sold by Christie’s, London, 17 June 2003, lot 151; and a plate was sold by Christie’s, London, 11 May 2004, lot 134.

Dr. Jochem Kroes notes that by family tradition, the crate containing the shaped pieces of this service broke on the East India Co. docks; thus only dishes and plates survive (see. J. Kroes, Chinese Armorial Porcelain for the Dutch Market, Zwolle, 2007, pp. 300-302). He attributes the order to Pieter van Herzeele (1702-1783).
