The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Overall with some scattered age and construction cracks as expected. The ebonized wood repainted, and now with some scattered minor nicks, abrasions and losses (not extensive), the top with a thick varnish. The central panel of back replaced, some replacements also to lowest plinth. Some minor old insect damage to reverse (now inactive). Slightly unstable, recommend securing to the wall. The ormolu re-gilt, with traces of earlier mercury gilding, now with a bright tone and some scattered minor rubbing, tarnish and oxidation; the female chutes with some flaking to the gilding. The proper right ormolu molding at the level of the female masks is a later aftercast. The brass ground with some minor pitting and abrasions, some unevenness including dents, some small areas of lifting and some replaced areas. The etched inlay rubbed, with some loss to etching in areas. The inlaid stained horn and mother-of-pearl with some cracks, losses, scattered replacements and with some re-heightening. A beautiful and rare example, presents very well overall, ready to place.
