Lot Essay

With the present piece, Audemars Piguet presents their immense capabilities at handcrafting beautifully decorated skeletonised dials, thus revealing their equally impressive automatic Cal. 2120. Having thought for many years that beautiful movements deserved their share of the spotlights, manufacturers often implemented sapphire casebacks, allowing owners to enjoy the ‘engine’ of their watch. Skeletonisation takes this one step further.

However, skeletonisation is a very complicated, and thus long-avoided, way of displaying the dial. Its difficulties lie in having to strip the movement back ‘to its bare bones’ and enhancing its beauty. As a result, a brand with the prestige of Audemars Piguet would only display a movement which they thought could rival a gilded and mesmerising skeletonised dial.

The above lot is a rare opportunity to enjoy both the movement and dial of a beautifully handcrafted watch by Audemars Piguet. Presented in attractive condition, it is no doubt a watch that will attract much intrigue and attention.
