Lot Essay

This rare desk compendium was designed by Paul Dupre Lafon (1900-1971) as part of his partnership with Hermès Paris. Dupré-Lafon’s genius was to link the Art Deco and and Modernist movements with his refined creations that were produced to appeal to a rich clientèle. A champion of craftsmanship and excellence, he used luxurious materials combined with stone, leather or chromed steel to create bold contrasting effects. This desk clock has a compass on the top, the sides with dials for the barometer and thermometer, manual calendar with engraved days of the month and apertures for the days of the week and the months. The whole assembly revolves on a stepped compressed leather square base.
