In the 1960s and 70s, Heuer chronographs were synonymous with motorsport. Jo Siffert, the Swiss Formula One driver, was often seen wearing the Autavia 1163 white dial with two black registers and blue accents. This colour scheme came to be known as the ‘Siffert Colour’ as seen on this Ref. 73663 launched in the early 1970s.
The watch’s aesthetics is classic 70’s chronograph – with a cushion case and panda dial and a tachymeter scale bezel. The tri-compax layout featured applied markers, with black inserts; polished steel hands, with luminous and black insert.
While the Ref. 1163 was powered by an automatic Caliber 11 chronograph movement, the Ref. 73663 ran the manual-winding Valjoux Cal. 7736. The watch is further presented with a classic Heuer stainless steel bracelet signed by Gay Frères. This is a watch that will particularly appeal to collectors of motorsport-inspired chronographs from the 1970s.
