Lot Essay

Omega released the original reference CK 2998 in 1959. It remains a much sought-after piece in the vintage market today was known for its characteristic Alpha hands and a dark acrylic bezel (the first Speedmaster reference, CK 2915, sported a steel bezel). In 1962 US astronaut Walter Schirra wore his personal CK 2998 during a Sigma 7 mission of NASA’s Mercury program.
The present timepiece was launched in 2019 with a popular panda dial configuration and a pulsometer scale bezel as opposed to the tachymeter scale seen on regular Speedmaster models. Limited to 2,998 pieces, it channels the design DNA of the original reference with details like a symmetrical case, straight lugs, Alpha hands and dark bezel (now ceramic with white enamel markings).
