Lot Essay

The Patek Philippe Nautilus was launched in 1976 during the quartz crisis, which was hitting the Swiss watches industry hard at the time. Created by Gérald Genta, the iconic porthole-inspired design endured the crisis and is still extremely popular today.

The first Nautilus reference was the 3700, such as the present lot, and produced until 1998 though steel versions were only made until 1986/1987. Boasting a large case for the time period, the nickname 'Jumbo' was adopted by collectors and stuck ever since.

Presented in attractive condition, this is a wonderful opportunity to acquire one of the most sought after and iconic watches ever made, accompanied by a beautiful and Ellipse presentation box.

OVERALL CONDITION: The watch is in good overall condition for a watch of its age

CASE: The case is in fine condition with light surface scratches around the bezel. The case itself is fairly scratch-free although there are signs that it has been polished yet it retains reasonably strong proportions. The caseback is scratched.

DIAL: The dial is in excellent condition. The ‘sigma’ signs at the base of the dial indicate that the indexes are made of white gold. The indexes are all original but the hands have been replaced fairly recently.

MOVEMENT: Ticking at the time of cataloguing. All functions are working

BRACELET: Good condition, 145 mm. (5.7 inches) with 6 removable links

BUCKLE: The buckle is slightly scratched
