Lot Essay
The Explorer reference 6610 was introduced in 1955 and featured the classic 3,6,9 dial that we now associate with the reference. It replaced the Ref. 6150, but the Ref. 6610 featured a flat caseback unlike the “bubble back” of the earlier reference. The 6610 black lacquer dials have gilt markings – gold text, chapter ring - and hands. The 6610 was produced for about five years before it was replaced with reference 1016 in 1963.
