Over the years, Rolex made special series of timepieces for various organizations, including military divisions of various countries. One of these organization has been the British army. Pieces for the British army are among the most elusive, appreciated and collectible military Rolex wristwatches.

The present Submariner is one of these exceedingly few “RSM submariner” to appear in public to date.
With Rolex Certificate dated October 2013 stating that the watch is a Special Reconnaissance Regiment Rolex Time Piece. The Certificate states further that the recipient of the watch, a ranking officer in the regiment, received this watch with serial number 403. The document is signed by both the recipient and the Regimental sergeant major (RSM). The present timepiece is part of a limited edition of 66 examples, made for the Special Reconnaissance Regiment, or SRR. The backs of these watches were engraved with the cap badge of the Special Reconnaissance Regiment and the individual issue number of the watch.

Special Reconnaissance Regiment
The Special Reconnaissance Regiment (SRR) is a special force unit of the British Army, specializing in surveillance and intelligence gathering operations. The main roles of SRS are to support special operations by providing clos target reconnaissance and surveillance. The regiment was created in 2005, its roots derive from the 14 Intelligence Company, also known as "The Det".

The secrecy is surrounding the SRR, with very few information leaking into the public but the unit was reported to have carried out undercover surveillance work in Iraqi, Afghanistan, Libya, Northern Ireland and in London during the 2005 terrorism attack.
