Reference 116610LN was launched in 2010 together with its green bezel counterpart 116610LV as the successor of the celebrated Submariner Date reference 16610. The most apparent difference between the two models is the ceramic insert in the bezel, as opposed to the simple metal insert of its predecessor. The reference has thicker lugs, and a completely redesigned bracelet and clasp. This new material, called "Cerachrom" by Rolex, was developed to improve the scratch resistance of the previous metal inserts
