Introduced at Baselworld 2011, these L.U.C XP Urushi timepieces were made in in association with Kiichiro Masumura, the world renowned Urushi artist. Urushi is the ancestral Japanese art of lacquering. The varnish is made from the sap of the Urushi tree, indigenous to Japan and China. The watch dials were painted and adorned with gold dust by the Yamada Heiando Company an official supplier to the Emperor of Japan.

This particular timepiece has a dial that Masumura has created this unique dial for Chopard based on the time-honoured lacquering techniques of Urushi and Maki-e. It portrays the Chrysanthemum, an incorruptible flower symbolising purity and vitality according to Chinese tradition.
