Lot Essay

The present timepiece is a fine example of a Patek Philippe chronograph dating from the third quarter of the 19th century.

The ébauche is by Patek Philippe, it is a "true" chronograph with start/stop and reset functions activated by the button in the crown. A bolt at 1 o’clock locks the chronograph when required.

The nickel-finished "moustache" lever movement has wolf's tooth winding and bi-metallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring with terminal curve, the chronograph work mounted on the back plate.

The white enamel dial with Roman numerals features gilded five-second numerals, the case with engraved monogram and coin-edged bezels.

A similar watch with Patek Philippe ébauche is illustrated in: Patek Philippe Watches, Vol. I., Patek Philippe Museum, 2014, p. 294.
