With great looks and tremendous presence on the wrist, the present watch is offered complete with the full set of box and accessories and represents the rare opportunity to obtain one of the very first series Ressence watches that are very seldom seen at auction. The distinctive feature of the ‘Zero Series’ is the large crown which is not found on later models. The crown, for setting the functions has a fold-out flange in the top for practicality.
Ressence was founded in 2010 by Benoît Mintiens in Antwerp, Belgium. The brand name is taken from the words ‘Renaissance’ and ‘essence’. The first series of 50 watches, to which the present watch belongs, was christened ‘Zero Series’ and launched in 2011. The Zero Series watches were assembled by VRJ in Waterloo, Belgium.
One of the immediately striking features of Ressence watches is that they do not have traditional hands, but instead a dial with three discs that rotate for the indications. This early ‘Zero Series’ model differs from later developments in having an AM/PM day and night indication in addition to the minutes, hours and seconds functions, these are indicated with hands painted on the dial itself. This entirely new and innovative system of timekeeping was made possible by the highly impressive patented 107-part Ressence ‘Orbital Convex System’ (ROCS1).
Awards for Ressence 2011 - At the World Exhibition in Geneva (Geneva Time Exhibition) Ressence watches were awarded a “special mention” from the jury. 2012 - considered Watch of the Year for innovation by WatchPro. 2013 - the Ressence Type 3 was voted 2013 Men's Watch of the Year by the Belgian newspaper Le Soir and awarded the Horological Revelation Prize at the Grand Prix d’horlogerie de Genève. 2016 - The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie certified that Ressence meets the Haute Horlogerie standards of excellence, the techniques of watchmaking in symbiosis with the applied arts.
