TUDOR, STAINLESS STEEL CHRONOGRAPH 'MONTE-CARLO' WITH DATE, REF. 7159/0
In 1971, Tudor launched a second series of Oysterdate Chronographs featuring bold and sporty dials. These watches were designated as the reference 7159/0 and quickly garnered the moniker 'Monte Carlo' by collectors due to their colorful and bold dials which resembled casino roulette wheels, according to the brand. Other collectors and historians have said that this nickname was conceived from these watches being heavily advertised in the streets of the principality during Grand Prix weekend.
Featuring screw-down crown and pushers, the 39 mm diameter stainless steel chronograph wristwatch has remained a coveted cornerstone of the brand and will continue growing in desirability and legendary status. The reference 7159/0 is powered by the improved Valjoux 234 which vibrates at 21,600 beats per hour, versus the former 18,000 beats per hour, and has a more sophisticated chronograph mechanism with a clutch and column wheel.
