“The light—[de Kooning] talked about that a lot, just the light out in the Hamptons,” said
Tom Ferrara, de Kooning’s assistant for many years in East Hampton,
in an interview with Christie’s. “There’s more of an atmospheric effect, so you’re getting the light sort of diffused through the atmosphere. So I think that was all a very big influence on him.”
