The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting is executed on paper, laid down on canvas, which appears to be stable and held under adequate tension. The stretcher retains all its keys.
Examination in natural light reveals craquelure across the surface of the painting, with some minor associated losses and infill. Some thinning to the upper glazes in the brown background is visible. Historic frame abrasion along the upper and right edges is visible when framed, with minor associated losses. A small concave warp is present lower centre when viewed from the front. Examination under UV reveals the presence of a cloudy spray varnish, which appears to have been removed from the area over the main frieze. This varnish precludes further analysis, but the presence of additional restoration cannot be ruled out.
