Lot Essay

The goddess is depicted running at pace, with her drapery flying out behind, most likely once holding her bow and arrow. See L. Kahil, "Artemis" in LIMC, vol. II, Zurich, 1984, pp. 645-649 for examples of the "Artemis on the move". For another bronze figure of running Artemis in the British Museum, see inv. no. 1951,0606.14.
