The details behind this warm welcome are uncertain but it was perhaps in the spring of 1963. After spending January and February in New York, Cohen returned to Hydra in March, where he was eager to have Marianne join him. It had been a successful U.S. trip from a career standpoint: Viking agreed to publish The Favorite Game and Cork Smith became his editor.
